Hey guys! It’s Saturday, it’s nice outside, and there’s loads to do today. Deerhunter & Black Lips absolutely killed it last night, concert of the year so far for me at least. What did you guys get up to last night? Anyone check out that ZZZzzzzzz thing at Mint? How about Nightvale?
King of Pops is in Piedmont Park until 12 today!
It’s Pirates & Princesses Day at the Georgia Aquarium (225 Baker St) which is unfortunately aimed at little kids, but if you’ve got one of those they get in free if they’re dressed up today.
There’s the Atlanta Beer Tour in Little Five Points today at 1pm, The Little Five Fling. 14-16 beers, plus food!
Atlanta Food Truck Park (1850 Howell Mill Road,) is hosting the Tastes & Brews event at 2pm, where you get food from 10 different trucks, plus different beers, but at $55 it’s pretty steep.
Park Tavern ( 500 10th St) has their annual Lepre*Con back this year at 3pm. Tickets are $28 in advance and $35 at the door, there’s lots of DJ’s and beer and stuff. (Psst: I haven’t really figured out what makes this worth the money when you could just hang out in Piedmont Park and hear all the music anyway… Is there free food/beer with your ticket?)
It’s the last afternoon to catch Dashboard Co-op’s COSMS exhibit in the Midtown Plaza (1360 Peachtree St.), 4-6pm today.
Local non-profit and all-aroung awesome group of people at Sopo Bicycle Co-op are having their annual charity event, Broken Hearts & Bicycle Parts. It’s $10 to get in, and there are multiple bicycle races for people of all skill levels, and lots of live music at The Drunken Unicorn afterwards.
More food! March Market: Sandwiches over at Art Space International (1192 Huff Rd NW) has all kinds of amazing sandwiches for sale for under $5, who doesn’t love a good sandwich!
NightLight Collective is closing their exhibit today at The Portal Gallery ( 675 Metropolitan Parkway #6026) over on the West End. It sounds pretty interesting, “Original Art! Original Music! A show with light, sound, 2D & 3D objects and images.” 7pm, free admission
I’m not going to pretend I can sum up what this gallery is about in a sentence or two, but The Artmatch Gallery (659 Auburn Avenue) has an exhibit called Iconned opening tonight at 7pm. If you’re interested in “questioning the reality of society’s power structures” click the link to raed the full description. This will be open for the rest of the month, but by appointment only, so if you want to see it today is the easiest day.
If you’re out in East Atlanta Village tonight around 7pm, there’s a Superhero & Supervillain Pub Crawl, $10 advance/$15 at the door, I bet this will be a blast.
If you haven’t been to the Steal This Bike exhibit at Mint Gallery ( 636 N. Highland Ave) then tonight is the perfect night to go! It’s being re-branded Steal This Surfbort, there will be tarot reading as well as four live bands and a DJ, including one of my favorite local acts Suno Deko. 8pm, $5.
If you miss the Young Blood Gallery (632 N. Highland Ave. NE), they’re having a moving party today at 8pm, celebrating the opening of their new location. Drinks, friends, and Cousin Dan!
The Mammal Gallery (91 broad street SW) is having No Child Left Behind tonight at 8pm, it’s several local bands and lots of bands that are driving through Atlanta on their way to SXSW stopping off and creating a miniature festival. I think there’s something like 15 bands playing on two stages. Very cool, $8.
Shows tonight: (imgur)
Just found out St. Vincent is not sold out yet!
- Coathangers album release show @ Star Bar (Ft. Cousin Dan, Biters, Zoners) $15, 10pm.
- Whores/Dropout/Members Please @ The Basement, $10, 10pm
- Bottle Kids/Dear Blanca/Anchor Bends @ WonderRoot, 9pm, $5.
- Ying Yang Twins @ Union EAV (Aren’t these guys huge??)
- Live DJs at the Argosy and Sound Table (possible cover).
I’ll be at The Mammal Gallery tonight for No Child Left Behind, I’ve always wanted to go to SXSW, and I imagine that will be my whole evening, but I’d like to go to Steal Thus Surfbort beforehand, and I’ll be in the park eating king of pops until I want to explode before that. Let me know what you guys get up to!
